This guide covers Venice Marco Polo Airport, not Treviso (TSF). Confirm your airport code before buying a transfer. Also check whether your accommodation is in historic Venice, on another island or on the mainland in Mestre.
Choose the destination before the vehicle

Airport bus to Piazzale Roma or Mestre
The official airport connection guide lists ACTV line 5 and the ATVO express for Piazzale Roma. For Venezia Mestre station, it lists ACTV line 15 and an ATVO express connection. Those are different destinations: check the display before boarding.
Piazzale Roma is your road-transport arrival point for historic Venice. It is not San Marco, and a bus ticket does not deliver you to every hotel in the city. From there, plan a walk or a separate water-bus connection. The airport describes a short walk across the Calatrava Bridge to Santa Lucia station; allow extra time with bags instead of treating the published walking estimate as a connection guarantee.
Before buying, compare the selected operator’s departure time, stops, luggage conditions and ticket rules. On arrival, keep your ticket available until you have completed the journey. If your plan continues by train from Mestre, check that the train actually calls at Mestre rather than assuming a Santa Lucia departure is interchangeable.
When Alilaguna makes sense
Alilaguna provides scheduled water transport from the airport. Its official lines and timetables let you compare stops and directions. Choose a line that serves a useful stop for your accommodation; do not choose only by a familiar destination name such as San Marco.
Compare three parts: the walk from arrivals to the boarding point, the wait and boat ride, and the final walk. Save the stop name in the spelling used by the operator. Ask your host which arrival stop they recommend with luggage, then check that advice against the current timetable.
A shared scheduled water bus and a private water taxi are different products. For a private transfer, get the total price for your party, baggage allowance, meeting instructions and actual landing point before booking. Water access near a building does not establish that the operator can deliver you to its entrance.
Does a Venice transport pass cover the airport?
Do not assume that it does. ACTV’s published ticket conditions distinguish standard urban tickets, airport tickets and airport supplements. Its ordinary daily and multi-day products exclude Marco Polo Airport travel unless the appropriate airport option is included. Alilaguna is excluded from these ACTV products.
If taking a bus and then a vaporetto, compare the product that covers your complete journey with separate tickets. Check the validity window, the operator and whether an airport supplement must be purchased with the pass. Follow the activation or validation instructions for the ticket you actually bought.
For a stay spent mostly walking, a long transport pass is not automatically good value. Write down the rides you expect to take and compare the current total. We link to the official conditions rather than quote a single fare that could describe the wrong combination.
Work backwards for an early flight
Start with your airline’s required airport arrival time. Then add the full transfer, including the walk from your accommodation, waiting time, changes and the walk from the airport stop or dock to the terminal. Check the first usable departure in the correct direction for your date.
If the timetable does not provide a comfortable margin, compare a prearranged transfer or a different final-night location before committing. A car-free itinerary still needs a realistic plan for a very early departure. For late arrivals, check your host’s check-in arrangements and the final useful service rather than assuming boats or buses run all night.
