This guide covers Rome Fiumicino, FCO. Ciampino (CIA) is a different airport with different transfers. Save your accommodation address and intended arrival station before buying anything labelled “Rome airport transfer”.
Choose the transfer by where you are staying

Leonardo Express and FL1 solve different journeys
Aeroporti di Roma’s rail guide identifies the airport station inside the terminal area: follow the train signs after arrivals. Choose Fiumicino Aeroporto as your departure in the journey planner.
Trenitalia’s Leonardo Express runs non-stop to Roma Termini, with an advertised journey of 32 minutes. The listed standard single fare is €14 per person, checked on ; group and child conditions can differ. That time is the train ride, not the journey from your aircraft to your accommodation.
The FL1 regional route serves other stations, including Roma Trastevere, Roma Ostiense and Roma Tiburtina. It is not the direct train to Termini. Compare the exact station and date in Trenitalia’s planner; the official Lazio timetable shows the route and stops.
Buy through the operator or an authorised seller, then follow the instructions for the actual ticket format. Do not assume that a city transport pass or a ticket for a different airport train covers your chosen service. When an airport bus is worth comparing
The airport’s official bus directory lists carriers, destinations and departure stands, including several services to Termini. Check the company on your ticket against the departure board: different airport coaches are not one interchangeable service.
Compare the complete cost: airport ticket, any onward transport and the time spent getting from the stop to your door. A cheaper fare may still be useful, but road traffic makes a tight onward reservation a poor place to spend the saving. Check the operator’s policy for a delayed flight, a missed departure and your bags before paying.
Save the named stop and a screenshot or offline copy of the walking route. “Rome city centre” is too broad to tell you whether a bus is convenient for your accommodation.
Plan for late arrivals and changed services
Look up the final useful departure for your travel date, not a remembered timetable. Include immigration where applicable, baggage collection and the walk to the station. Check that the transport after the airport service will also still be running and that your host can accept a late check-in.
September–October 2026 rail notice
Trenitalia has published changes to selected Rome–Fiumicino services for works at Roma Ostiense from 4 September to 11 October 2026. Read the official notice and affected-train attachment if travelling in that period. This is not a statement that all airport trains are cancelled.
If a delayed flight removes your planned connection, recheck the airport directory for a usable alternative. When public transport no longer fits, use the airport’s authorised taxi arrangements and confirm the applicable fare; avoiding a rental car need not mean forcing an impractical late-night journey.
Continuing to Florence or another city
Start by searching from Fiumicino Aeroporto to your final station. Compare any through option shown with a change in Rome, and read the ticket conditions. When changing at Termini, leave time to exit the airport train, find the departure board and reach the next platform with your bags.
There is no reliable universal buffer after a flight. A separately booked fixed train may become unusable if your flight is late; do not assume automatic protection between separate bookings.
