Areas to compare for our three-city route

These are starting points for a search, based on the transport needs of our Rome–Florence–Venice itinerary. They are not hotel endorsements. The exact street, entrance and room matter more than a neighbourhood name.

Keep two or three properties on your shortlist. For each, save the address and a walking or public-transport route using your planned arrival time. Check both directions; your departure may be much earlier than your arrival.

02 / Rome

Choose how much you want to rely on Termini

Roma Termini connects Metro A and B as well as rail services. That makes it a useful transport anchor for this itinerary. Check the official metro and railway information for your onward journeys, rather than assuming every sight is beside a station.

Start near the station if the arrival is the priority

For a late train arrival or an early departure, first compare properties with a manageable walk from Termini. Check the station exit and property entrance on a map. Read recent reviews for room-specific noise and check-in comments; the name of the area cannot tell you whether a particular room will suit you.

Compare Monti if you want to build evenings around the neighbourhood

Monti is another area to investigate for this stay. Roma’s tourism office describes its galleries, wine bars and evening scene in its Monti guide. Our suggestion is to compare the address with your evening plans, then check the walk or connection back to Termini with luggage. Do not assume that a room in a lively area will be quiet.

If your actual train uses Roma Tiburtina, rebuild the arrival route from that station. Choose accommodation for the ticket you will use, not for a generic search for “Rome station”.

03 / Florence

Make the station-to-room walk part of the choice

Our route uses Firenze Santa Maria Novella. The station is opposite the church of the same name, as shown in the official city guide. Use the station itself as your arrival pin, not a search result for the church or another Florence railway station.

Santa Maria Novella for a straightforward rail stay

We would start here for two nights with bags and an onward train. Compare the walk from the platform exit to the front door, then the walk from the room to the sights you have booked. A station-adjacent address is a practical option, not a requirement.

Santo Spirito or San Frediano for time in the Oltrarno

If workshops, gardens and exploring across the river are part of your plan, compare the Oltrarno. FeelFlorence’s neighbourhood itinerary covers the area between Porta San Frediano, Porta Romana and Piazza Santo Spirito. Choose it because you want to spend time there; check the complete station transfer before paying.

In either area, ask which floor the room occupies and whether a lift reaches it without intervening steps. A photograph of the lobby does not establish access to the room. Confirm the exact room category when this affects your decision.

04 / Venice

Decide whether you want to sleep in Venice itself

Venezia Santa Lucia is the railway arrival for the historic city; Venezia Mestre is on the mainland. Venezia Unica explains these arrival points in its official arrival guide. A property advertised under “Venice” can therefore involve a very different journey from the one you imagined.

A stay in the historic centre

For the two Venice nights in our route, we would first compare addresses with a manageable route from Santa Lucia. You can spend the evening in the city without a mainland return journey. If arriving by airport bus instead, begin the route at your bus terminal.

Trace every bridge between the arrival point and the door. If using a vaporetto, ask for the correct stop and the walking route from that stop. “Near the Grand Canal” does not tell you how many steps lie between you and the property.

A stay in Mestre

Compare Mestre when a particular room offers enough value to justify the daily connection. Add transport for every traveller and check the journey home after your planned evening. Being near Mestre station and being elsewhere in Mestre are different arrangements; map the property rather than the district.

05 / Compare like with like

Price the stay, not just the room

For each shortlisted property, write down the total for the same dates, guests and cancellation conditions. Include any mandatory charges shown separately, local transport you need because of the address, and paid luggage storage if necessary. Compare these totals before deciding which room is better value.

Keep time beside cost: how often will you repeat the journey into the area you want to explore? A cheaper base may still be a good choice when that connection fits your day. It is less useful if it removes the evenings you were looking forward to.

• Exact entrance address and arrival route saved.
• Check-in possible at your realistic arrival time, including a delay.
• Room floor, lift access and remaining steps confirmed.
• Luggage storage hours and any charge confirmed for arrival and departure.
• Room conditions, mandatory charges and cancellation deadline understood.
• Early departure route checked separately from the arrival route.
