Our pick: spring or early autumn for city walks and time on Lucca’s walls. In summer, schedule exposed squares and ramparts early, reserve indoor visits deliberately and keep the hottest hours light.

Choose the arrival station from the actual service and your hotel location. Centrale gives a city walk from south of the Arno; San Rossore may be closer to Piazza dei Miracoli on selected trains.

What to expect at each stop.
Florence
Days 1–3 · 3 nightsArrival: Firenze Santa Maria Novella is beside the historic centre. Check the final walk to the accommodation and leave the arrival afternoon free of a fixed museum reservation.
Use two full days for one major collection, the central streets and a separate Oltrarno or viewpoint walk. Lucca and Pisa have their own stays, so Florence does not need to carry every Tuscany day trip.

Where to base yourself
Stay within a manageable walk of Santa Maria Novella or on a direct local-transport route. Check lift access and the final cobbled section before booking.
On your feet & with luggage
Florence is compact but paved with stone and busy around major sights. Use buses for a hillside viewpoint and verify lifts at the accommodation or museum separately.
Bags after checkout
Ask your host whether bags can stay after checkout. Compare returning there with a point near Firenze Santa Maria Novella, including any extra river crossing. Check collection hours and the full price before paying.

Give one full morning to the Uffizi or another chosen collection. Use the second morning for the cathedral area, market or a garden rather than stacking two large museums.
Leave room for
Follow the Arno into Oltrarno and choose a viewpoint only when the weather and energy suit it. Keep the arrival afternoon flexible.
If the weather or your plans change
In heat or rain, shorten the outdoor loop and extend one indoor visit. Lucca and Pisa remain separate stops, so they do not need to be added as Florence day trips.

Lucca
Days 4–5 · 2 nightsArrival: Lucca station is just outside the walls, a short walk from Porta San Pietro. Confirm the exact route to the accommodation because gates, cobbles and upper-floor rooms matter more with luggage.
Keep the first afternoon inside the walls and use the full day for the ramparts, churches and quieter streets. Two nights preserve an evening after many day visitors leave.

Where to base yourself
Stay inside the walls for atmosphere or near Porta San Pietro for the simplest station transfer. Confirm stairs and bicycle storage only if you intend to use them.
On your feet & with luggage
Lucca station is close to the walls, while the ramparts and central lanes remain a substantial walk. Cycling is optional and requires its own fit and access check.
Start with
Walk a section of the walls before the busiest hours, then descend near the centre. Choose a short loop rather than treating the full circuit as mandatory.
Leave room for
Connect Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, a church or tower and quieter side streets. Leave one evening unplanned inside the walls.
If the weather or your plans change
In poor weather, keep the route around the central churches and museums. The walls are an optional public-space experience, not a required transport link.

Pisa
Days 6–7 · 1 nightArrival: Pisa Centrale is south of the river and requires a real city walk or local bus to Piazza dei Miracoli. Pisa San Rossore can be closer for some journeys, but check that the selected train actually serves it.
Use the final afternoon for the river and centre before approaching Piazza dei Miracoli. Staying overnight makes an early or late visit possible without reducing Pisa to a station-to-tower dash.

Where to base yourself
Choose between the station side for an easy departure and the river or monument side for a shorter sightseeing walk. Measure the whole route with luggage.
On your feet & with luggage
Pisa Centrale is a meaningful walk from Piazza dei Miracoli. Use a local bus or a suitable San Rossore arrival when that better matches the selected service and your mobility.
Start with
Visit Piazza dei Miracoli early or after checking out, depending on the timed entry. The square itself and individual monuments have different access conditions.
Leave room for
On arrival, walk from the Arno through the centre before approaching the famous square. This makes Pisa a city stop rather than a single photograph.
If the weather or your plans change
If a tower slot does not fit, visit the square and another monument without forcing the climb. Keep the final departure margin generous.
