Check the name before buying
Venezia Santa Lucia is the terminus in historic Venice. Venezia Mestre is on the mainland. Both can be useful, but they are not interchangeable: match the station to your accommodation and onward journey.
Choose Santa Lucia for an island arrival
A train booked to Santa Lucia crosses the lagoon and finishes beside the Grand Canal. If a search result ends at Mestre, add the remaining rail or road-and-water journey before comparing its price and time. Our Venice accommodation guide explains how the two station choices affect the stay.
Match the live departure before walking to the platform
Match the train number and scheduled time on your ticket to the live departure display. The destination on the board may be beyond your stop. Wait for the current platform assignment, then recheck it before boarding; do not plan around a platform used on an earlier journey.
RFI lists 23 passenger tracks and warns that live information inside the station can appear a few minutes before the corresponding online information. Follow the station displays and announcements for the journey in front of you. See the official RFI station page.
Step out onto the Grand Canal
The main exit brings you to the canal and the station steps. Pause before following the busiest flow: first decide whether the next leg is on foot, by public waterbus or by another booked service. A short map distance can still include bridges and steps.
For a walking arrival, save the exact address and count the bridges to the door. For a water journey, use the stop name Ferrovia when checking current ACTV information. A city waterbus, an airport boat and a water taxi are different services and use different tickets.
Choose the line, direction and Ferrovia landing stage
Several landing stages share the Ferrovia name. Check all three parts before joining a queue: the line, its direction and the letter of the current landing stage. The nearest queue is not evidence that the boat goes towards your accommodation.

Arrange assistance and the luggage plan before travel
RFI provides assistance through its Sala Blu service. Arrange the service in advance and follow the confirmed meeting instructions; temporary lift or platform conditions can change. Keep the ticket and assistance confirmation easy to reach.

- The walk or waterbus plan reaches the exact accommodation address.
- Any bag collection and assistance appointments leave time before departure.
