One line through the city works better than repeated crossings
Start at Verona Porta Nuova, reach Piazza Bra and continue through the historic centre. Choose one major interior visit and let the streets, squares and river shape the rest of the day.
01 / Read the full station name
Start at Verona Porta Nuova
Verona has more than one railway station. Porta Nuova is the principal arrival for most intercity journeys, while Porta Vescovo serves regional traffic from the east. The official tourism site explains the distinction on its getting-to-Verona page.
From Porta Nuova, compare the walk with a city bus to Piazza Bra. A walk avoids waiting and gives a simple route; a bus can save energy in heat, rain or with limited mobility.
02 / Build one continuous route
Piazza Bra → old town → river
| Part of day | Area | Planning decision |
|---|---|---|
| Arrival | Porta Nuova to Piazza Bra | Walk or use a city bus. |
| Core walk | Arena, Piazza delle Erbe and nearby streets | Choose one interior visit. |
| Later day | Adige river or Castelvecchio area | Turn back according to the return train. |
The city’s official getting-around guide covers buses and Verona Bike. Treat it as current orientation and verify the operator’s live service for the travel date.
03 / Choose one main interior
Arena, Castelvecchio or another priority
The Arena is an obvious centrepiece, but visitor access changes around performances and events. Castelvecchio offers a different museum visit near the route back towards the station. Check official hours and ticket conditions before fixing the order of the day.
Juliet’s House has date-specific access and booking arrangements. The official tourism site publishes current changes, including its access information from April 2026. If it is a priority, reserve it first; otherwise keep the route flexible.
04 / Leave space between sights
Do not schedule the old town as transit time
Verona works because the walk between major places is part of the visit. Leave room for lunch, a square and an unplanned street rather than filling every hour with an admission slot. The day remains useful even if one interior closes.
05 / Work backwards from the train
Return to Porta Nuova with a real margin
Save the station route before leaving Wi-Fi and start back with enough time to find the platform. If the return fare is train-specific, the final museum entry must fit that commitment.
Lake Garda is a separate outing rather than a quick extension. Use our Lake Garda without a car guide to choose Peschiera, Desenzano or a northern-lake approach.
