Six days, five nights: one night in Genoa, two in Camogli and two in Levanto. For a four-day version, use two overnight bases and visit Camogli en route instead of changing accommodation twice.

Our pick: late spring or early autumn, with a flexible day for the sea. Train travel anchors the route; boats and coastal walks are optional. Expect slopes and steps in the villages, even on a non-hiking trip.
Build your budget
Compare point-to-point regional tickets with the Cinque Terre Treno Card only for your village-hopping day. The card is not a pass for the whole Genoa–Camogli–Levanto route. Keep boat spending optional until services and weather are confirmed.

Regional train; estimate from Brignole. Principe may take longer.
Search from the Genoa station closest to your stay. Pick a convenient regional departure and check whether it is direct. The station name does not mean you have arrived at San Fruttuoso abbey.

What to expect at each stop.
Genoa
Day 1 · 1 nightArrival: Genova Piazza Principe and Brignole serve different sides of the centre; check which is closer to your stay.
Treat Genoa as more than a gateway. The old port, steep lanes and funiculars explain the geography of the whole coast.

Where to base yourself
Choose accommodation with a manageable walk from Principe or Brignole. Old-town addresses can involve narrow lanes and stairs; ask about access before choosing on price alone.
On your feet & with luggage
The waterfront is the gentler part of this stop; the lanes inland can rise sharply and include steps. Use public lifts or funiculars where helpful, checking that they are operating. Avoid a heavy bag for the old-town walk.
Start with
If arriving early, leave your bag and start around the old port. Otherwise make this an afternoon-and-evening stop; there is no need for an extra ticketed attraction on arrival.
Leave room for
Walk into the historic lanes, then use a public lift or funicular for a change of perspective. Plan your walk back while it is still light if this is your first visit.
If the weather or your plans change
In rain, keep the old-town loop short and take a long lunch. Save a coastal outing for Camogli rather than adding a rushed side trip from Genoa.

Camogli
Days 2–3 · 2 nightsArrival: The regional station sits above the waterfront; expect steps and a short downhill walk.
Keep this stop deliberately light: beach, harbour and a walking or boat day, subject to season and sea conditions.

Where to base yourself
Near the waterfront is convenient for evenings but may involve steps from the station. Confirm whether your room is up a steep lane and whether you can store bags before check-in.
On your feet & with luggage
Expect a descent from the station towards the sea and an uphill return. Hillside walks are a different level of effort from the promenade. Check boat boarding arrangements if balance, steps or a wheelchair are a concern.
Start with
Give the harbour an unhurried morning, then follow the promenade towards the basilica. A beach break is a complete plan here; a boat trip is an addition, not a requirement.
Leave room for
On your full day, consider the boat to San Fruttuoso only after checking the outbound and last return services. Leave a generous return margin rather than aiming for the final possible departure.
If the weather or your plans change
If boats are cancelled, stay in Camogli or choose a rail outing. Do not substitute an unfamiliar hillside hike without checking the trail, weather and your fitness.
Check the operator’s current timetable and booking options. Sailing is weather-dependent.
Levanto
Days 4–6 · 2 nightsArrival: Levanto is on the regional rail line just north of the five famous villages.
Use Levanto as a calmer base. Take the train into the villages, but reserve time for Levanto itself and avoid trying to collect every stop.

Where to base yourself
Use Levanto itself as the base, with a practical walk to the station. A hillside property may look close on a map while being inconvenient for several train trips.
On your feet & with luggage
Village sightseeing still includes slopes and stairs. Train-hop if you want to avoid a coastal hike; do not assume a walking trail is a level seaside promenade. Check park trail conditions and individual station access before choosing the day’s stops.
Start with
Use the full day for one or two villages, such as Monterosso and Vernazza. Explore the first on foot, then decide whether to take the train to a second. You do not need to visit all five to enjoy the coast.
Leave room for
Take the train between villages unless the park confirms your intended trail is open and suitable. Finish back in Levanto with time for the beach and dinner; leave departure day simple.
If the weather or your plans change
For rough weather or crowded trains, spend more of the day in Levanto. A trail pass does not guarantee that a path is open, and special routes can have separate booking rules.
